Case study: UWE Cast Iron Clock
As part of the cast iron repair works to the clock tower, the University of the West of England employed Dorothea Restorations to carry out repairs and re-finishing to the four original clock faces.
The Glenside Campus in Bristol is based in the old 19th century asylum buildings, and the clock tower is a central feature.
First, each of the four cast iron faces was carefully dismantled and removed from the tower to ground level.
The faces were cleaned and re-painted at our Bristol works and new flash opal white glass used to replace broken and missing glass panes.
With others restoring the original clock mechanism and installing new lighting, the clock was returned to its former glory.
